Each month of the 2019-2020 school year will represent a pillar of character that students are encouraged to display in their attitudes, behaviors, and relationships within Milton Pope School and their daily lives. These pillar traits focus on the values, mindsets, and skills that assist each student to reach their development and understanding of character within the academic and social-emotional domains of the school climate.

The following list states each pillar and its definition.

  • August/September: Responsibility
    • the state or fact of being responsible, answerable, or accountable for something within one's power, control, or management
  • October: Trustworthiness/Integrity
    • the ability to be relied on as honest or truthful / the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness
  • November: Citizenship
    • relationship between an individual and a state to which the individual owes allegiance and in turn is entitled to its protection, the status of freedom with accompanying responsibilities
  • December: Caring/Empathy
    • displaying kindness and concern for others / the ability to understand and share the feelings of another
  • January: Fairness
    • impartial and just treatment or behavior without favoritism or discrimination
  • February: Respect
    • a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements
  • March: Perseverance/Grit
    • persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success / courage and resolve; strength of character
  • April: Self-Control/Courage
    • the ability to control oneself, in particular one's emotions and desires or the expression of them in one's behavior, especially in difficult situations / the ability to do something that frightens one, strength in the face of pain or grief
  • May/June: Gratitude
    • the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness
 
The junior high students will be creating posters that accompany each pillar and they will be voted on by their peers. Congratulations to the following winners!
